Bonny Young

RALEIGH – Bonny Young, 86, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at his home of lung cancer and a broken heart. He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Simeon and Pearl Sorrell Young. He was the youngest of 13 siblings. He served in the U.S. Army near the end of the Korean War. He was married to Rose Marie Clifton of Johnston County, who preceded him in death only four months ago. They had been married for 65 years. He was a Captain with the Raleigh Fire Department, where he served the City of Raleigh for 30 years. Bonny and Rose enjoyed decades of service with the South Raleigh Civitan Club, holding numerous offices and served in various capacities in the Civitan organization. He was also a member of the William T. Bain Masonic Lodge and the Men’s Fellowship of Garner Advent Christian Church. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Garner Advent Christian Church. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home of Regina Alexander. Survivors include his daughter, Regina Alexander and husband, Allan; special niece,  Priscilla Crickmor and husband, Bob of Garner; grandchildren, Viorel Tapu and wife, Gina of Bucharest, Romania, Irina Burlacu and husband, Bogdan of Fort Collins, CO, Elena Alexander and husband, Arturo Alvarez, Benone Alexander and Dennis Alexander of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Melanie, Derek, Alexandra, Aiden and Addison; numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Oker Young and siblings, Virgil, Clarence, Kermit, Kenneth, Caswell, Floyd Lee, Emil, Nuel Kathleen, Addie, Nancy and Numa. The family is grateful to Dr. Gregory Pleasants and to Transitions LifeCare (Hospice of Wake County) for the warm and compassionate care he received.
