Brenda Wimberley Blalock

June 20, 1945 — October 27, 2022

ANGIER - Brenda Diane Wimberley Blalock, 77, passed away at home on Thursday, October 27, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Brenda was born on June 20, 1945 to Helen Scott Wimberley and Linwood Wimberley of Apex. She was a typical independent firstborn child, keeping an eye on her younger sibling and making her own decisions. Her favorite breakfast was a banana sandwich and a Coke, often enjoyed as she drove her younger sister and herself to school in her sporty Corvair. As a teenager, she met Dewey Blalock Jr., another eldest child, from Angier, and fell head over heels in love. She left the hometown she often referred to as a "little slice of heaven" to attend Campbell College and married her young man as she began her sophomore year of college on September 4,1965. They soon welcomed their first son, Mark, followed by their second son Steven, three years later. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Brenda continued her education, graduating with a teaching degree from Campbell and later two masters’ degrees from East Carolina. She taught at both AV Baucom Elementary School and Angier Elementary and was subsequently promoted to principal at Buies Creek Elementary. She later transferred to North Harnett Primary School and finally Western Harnett Middle School, where she eventually retired in the same capacity. She was well loved and highly respected during her career and positively influenced many teachers, students, their families and the community-at-large. As a result of the genetic disease PKD, she underwent a successful kidney transplant at Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2010 as part of a donor chain. Dewey was able to donate a kidney to a woman, and in turn, her daughter was able to donate a kidney to Brenda. Highly intelligent and quick witted, Brenda was able to easily assess most any situation and react accordingly. She enjoyed traveling, time at their beach home on Topsail Island, her church family at Angier Baptist Church, meals with family and friends and doting on her sons and grandchildren. But her greatest joy of all was her precious and special marriage to Dewey.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, October 31st at Angier Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Kennebec Baptist Church Cemetery, Angier. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 pm prior to the service at the church.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Dewey R. Blalock, Jr.; son, D. Mark Blalock and wife Carol of Angier; grandchildren, Emily Blalock Long and husband, Eric of Concord; William (Will) M. Blalock and Taylor S. Blalock, also of Angier; Catherine, Caleb and Ryan Blalock of Fuquay; sister, Teresa Wimberley Koeppen and husband, Paul of Apex; brother-in-law, Richard H. Blalock and wife, Carol of Angier; sister-in-law, Sharon K. Blalock (Marcia Tillotson) of Charlotte; nieces, Stacey (Rick); Amy (Bonn); and Jill (Tom); numerous great nieces and nephews; and assistant canine nurse Charlie.
