Brian Lee Lenz

Brian Lee Lenz, age 58 passed away on January 4, 2019. A native of Alliance, Ohio, Brian moved to Raleigh in 1984, to begin his career with IBM. Despite (or thanks to) chemotherapy and surgery Brian lived with a brain tumor since 1993. Brian was a 1978 graduate of Alliance High School, where he was co-valedictorian and a National Merit and Ohio Board of Regents scholarship recipient. He graduated in 1982 from Mount Union College, summa cum laude, with majors in mathematics and applied computer science. In 1984 Brian earned an MBA at the University of Michigan, graduating ‘with great distinction’. Brian was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Raleigh. He and his sons were active in the YMCA Guides program. Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Virginia Lenz, both of Alliance. He is survived by his wife, LuAnn (Riffe), and sons David Brian Lenz and his wife Samantha of Arlington, Virginia and Adam Lee Lenz of Raleigh. Brian also leaves an older brother, Bruce, and his wife Lillian, of Canton, Ohio, one aunt and uncle, Robert and Jean (Maldoven) Hannah of Alliance and two first cousins, Carol (Hannah) King and James Hannah. Brian is also survived by his mother-in-law, Norma (Allen) Riffe of Raleigh. The memorial service is scheduled for January 12, 2019 at 2:30 with visitation an hour before at 1:30 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Raleigh. The family would like to express special thanks to the members of Brian’s team at the Duke Brain Tumor Center especially Dr. Allan Friedman, Dr. Annick Desjardins, and Dr. Renee Raynor. Brian was also grateful for the support of members of his yoga class, and instructor Julie, and caregivers Michelle and Elizabeth from Twins Loving Care.
