Brian T. Gaffney

December 6, 1948 — February 26, 2022

Brian T. Gaffney finished his journey on earth on Feb. 26, 2022. Brian was born in Manhattan, New York to Harry and Jane Gaffney (both deceased). He never married, and was the second of their four children. Clare (Angier,NC) Martin (wife Carol ) (Douglastown, NY) and Harry (deceased). He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 10th at 12:00 PM at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd. Spring Lake, NC 28390. Soon after graduating high school, Brian answered the call of his nation and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. Stationed aboard the USS Kennedy, Brian would become a fire safety technician on the Kennedy. Brian used that skill for the rest of his life, retiring from Queens Hospital, Jamaica, NY as the Fire Safety Director in 2011. A lifetime lover of travel, Brian traveled extensively around the US and Canada on bus tours. He had a pull toward the home of his ancestors and took many trips to England, Scotland, and his beloved Ireland. Brian was musically talented, playing the trumpet and enjoyed many types of music including 60s rock, jazz, and bagpipes. His infectious laugh and gregarious nature endeared him to many and Brian made many friends when he moved from NY to Cary upon his retirement. Brian was fun to be around. He became an avid bowler, and he was full of jokes, funny sayings, and laughter. He loved his nation, friends, and God. He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him, but we take comfort that Brian was a man of faith and is now at peace.
