Born in Raleigh, NC to Fred E. Edwards and Mabel C. Edwards. Graduated from Needham Broughton High School. Following graduation, he went into the Army. After being discharged from the Army, he started his career in commercial flooring and ceilings. His first employer was Colonial Flooring and Acoustical in Durham, NC, then become self-employed and later went to work at R.L. Dresser, Inc. where he retired in 2005. In his retirement, he enjoyed attending NC State Sporting Events, attending Raleigh Sports Club, walking at Triangle Town Center with his wife and friends, and hanging out with his best friend of 52 years, Stanley Cobb, and his son-in-law, Joe Mitchell. He enjoyed being entertained by his granddaughters, Macy and Madison Mitchell. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served in various roles over the years, specifically Deacon of the Church and Elder of the Church. Survived by wife, Jean Nance Edwards of 25 years, daughter, Michelle Edwards Mitchell (Joe), sister, Peggy A. Edwards, grandchildren, Joey Mitchell (Maddy), Zack Mitchell, Bryson Mitchell, Macy Mitchell and Madison Mitchell. Step-Children, John Nance (Margaret), Steve Nance, Mark Nance and Jane Nance (Denise Dingee) and Megan Haithcock (Matt), granddaughter. Niece, Vickie Edwards Teal, and nephews, Allen Edwards and Bill Edwards. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Bradley Carlson, Dr. Gregory Rose, Jackie Sebastian, Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Curtis Anderson and Dr. Daniel Vig for his care in the last 2 ½ years. Also, for Joe Mitchell and Stanley Cobb with his hospital stays in Sept 2016 and his most recent one, July 2017. Preceded in death by his parents, Fred E. and Mabel C. Edwards, his brothers, Fred E. Edwards, Jr. and William T. (Buddy) Edwards, his first wife, Frances I. Edwards, special friends, Bob Powell, Jimmy Piper, Billy Moser, and Joe Morgan. Visitation will be Monday, July 31, 6:30-8:30 pm, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road. The funeral will be at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 301 E. Whitaker Mill Road, on Tuesday, August 1, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street. The family will be at the home of his wife, Jean Nance Edwards, and at the home of his daughter, Michelle Edwards Mitchell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his honor to NC Wolfpack Club, Raleigh Sports Club Scholarship Fund, and Westminster Presbyterian Church.
