Carl W. Franks, Sr.

Garner- Carl William Franks, Sr., 87, died peacefully at his home Tuesday. Other than his wife of 59 years Marie, Carls pride and joy was his 2 children and 6 grandchildren. He was a caring man that put the needs of others first. A family and community driven man, he was the first police commissioner of Garner, a board alderman for 9 years and was active in the 1970 reorganization of the Garner Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Garner Civitan Club, having held the positions of president, two time recipient of Civitan of Year Award, Lieutenant Governor and Deputy Governor of NC, District East, as well as initiating Pop Warner Football. With his passion for the youth of Garner, he was instrumental in forming the Garner Trojan Club and in the construction of the Garner Trojan Stadium. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM Friday at Bryan-Lee Chapel, Garner. The family will receive friends after the service. Surviving: wife, Marie Russell Franks; daughter, Connie F. Hawley and husband, Mickey of Garner; son, Carl Franks, Jr. of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Brittany Franks, Courtney Franks, Matthew Hawley, Hannah Hawley, Mikayla Hawley and Carly Moore; nieces, Vivi Serena and Linda Perkins.
