RALEIGH – Carol Ayers Crain, 77, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, surrounded by her family. Carol was born in Seattle, Washington on April 19, 1945, but she may have told you she was supposed to have been born in Amarillo, Texas where she was raised. Carol was the daughter of the late Carl C. Ayers and Oma Merle Anderson Ayers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her cousin and friend, Jeanne Brown Jackson. Carol is survived by her husband of 53 years, Claiborn Crain; daughter, Crystal Crain McFaden and husband, Brian; son, Carter Crain and wife, Lynda; grandchildren, Bailey McFaden, Cole McFaden, Annie Crain, and Carlyn Crain; sister, Suzie Rather and husband, Danny; brother-in-law, Jerry Crain and wife, Cheryl; nieces, Jennifer Holt, Julie Washington, Chloe Hewitt and Sterling Steyn; and a host of extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 20, 2022, in the Main Sanctuary of Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s memory to Lewy Body Dementia research (www.alz.org); or to the charity of your choice.
