Born May 10, 1929, Carolyn was the daughter of Gladys Broughton Dees and Frank Dees and stepfather Tom Dees - all deceased. She grew up in Pikeville, North Carolina and graduated from Pikesville High School in 1947. After receiving her B.S. degree from Wake Forest College in 1950, she was a teacher in Wayne County and Wilson County. She married Morris C. Brown in 1955 and they moved to Raleigh in 1959. In Wake County, Carolyn was a media specialist at West Millbrook Middle School and Enloe High School for 19 years. After retiring in 1989, Carolyn enjoyed most of all her family and friends, Topsail Beach, gardening, and reading.
Since 1990 Garner United Methodist Church has been a source of love and strength to face each day with the assurance that every day is a gift from God and should be lived to the fullest in His honor.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn is predeceased by her twin sister, Gladys Dees Lanier, and daughter, Melanie Ting Brown.
Carolyn is survived by sons, Morris Brown, Jr. (Robin) and Thomas Brown (Amy); son-in-law, Shi Tien (Ting); sister, Jean Dees Ragsdale; and grandchildren, Amanda Ting, Adam Ting, Robert Brown, Timothy Brown, Mason Brown, and Jacob Brown.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 1 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road Garner NC 27529. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 12:45 before the service. Burial will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh NC.
