Carolyn Mcfarland Abbott

GARNER – Carolyn McFarland Abbott, 63, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Durham County on November 21, 1959, the daughter of the late James “Red” McFarland and Shirley Pleasant. Carolyn was a “sister” to her siblings and practiced her mothering skills from an early age. She was most comfortable with a baby on her hip and a telephone to her ear. Mothering and caretaking came natural to her.

Carolyn and Curtis married and started their family at a young age and grew up together. They had already started making plans for their upcoming 50th anniversary. They were the happiest when together and Curtis was trying to aggravate her.

Her children learned strength, patience, and kindness from her as she exemplified these qualities daily in good times and hard times. Carolyn deeply loved God, her family, and her friends. She will be missed deeply, loved forever, and never forgotten.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her dad, Harold Pleasant; and son, John Abbott.

Carolyn is survived by her loving family which includes her husband of 48 years, Curtis Abbott; daughter, Michele Abbott (Reggie); sons, Michael Abbott (Princess), Curt Abbott (Misty), Eddie Abbott (Jamie); sister, Wendy Walker (Grant); brothers, Tim McFarland, Phil Pleasant (Robin), David Pleasant; grandchildren, Megan (John), Amber, Quintin, Riley, Kyra, Sophia, Gray; and her great-grandchildren, Vince and Bentley. Carolyn will also be lovingly remembered as “Aunt Cat” by her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh.

Flowers are welcome and may be sent to the funeral home.
