Carolyn Stanley Braxton

Carolyn Braxton passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022, and was welcomed in a heavenly reunion with her husband of 55 years, Donald Braxton.

Carolyn is survived by her son; Donel and his wife, Terrie; granddaughters, Katie and her husband, Alex; Anna and her husband, RJ, and Emily; 2 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Braxton; a brother, GW and his wife, Renay; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Faye.

Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed puzzles, bird watching, and cooking with her sister and brother. Her fried chicken is still considered her #1 dish among her family.

She was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church. Being asked to serve as a Deacon was one of her greatest honors. She also loved teaching her Sunday School class, singing in the choir with her husband, and serving on a variety of committees.

Carolyn was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. She worked at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, NC for over 12 years. During her time at Wayne Community, she served as Coordinator of Student Activities before moving into the financial aid office, where she served as the Veterans Education Benefit Coordinator and Assistant Financial Aid Director. Upon moving to Wake County, she took on the role of Financial Aid Director at Wake Tech Community College, where she served for over 10 years. After retirement, she worked with local high schools to help students understand the financial aid process. She also worked as a consultant for local community colleges financial aid departments. She received many honors and awards throughout her career: Phi Theta Kappa, Wayne Community College Educational Office Person of the Year, NCAEOP District 12 Educational Office Person of the Year, National Certified Educational Office Employee, Shining Star Awards for NC Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, and Wake Tech Staff Council award for exemplary service, loyalty, and support.

A celebration of life service will be held for Carolyn and Donald Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 11am at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Transitions LifeCare Hospice https://transitionslifecare.org/donate/ or to your favorite charity in their memory.
