Carroll Monroe Compton

December 24, 1930 — May 10, 2023

Carroll Monroe Compton (Coach Compton), 92, formerly of New Madrid, Missouri died Wednesday morning, May 10, 2023 at his North Carolina home. He was able to remain at home with his devoted wife, Dianne, of 57 years, and daughters Jane and Liz as he passed peacefully.

Carroll was born in Frankclay, Missouri, of the late Henry and Bertha Whaley Compton December 24, 1930. He grew up in Leadwood, Missouri where he graduated from Leadwood High with his 6 brothers and 2 sisters, all which preceded him in death. He was drafted and made Corporal in the US Army in 1952-54, then attended Central Methodist University in Fayette where he earned his BS in Education. He continued on to University of Missouri at Columbia for his Masters in Administration. Carroll accepted a position with New Madrid High School in 1957 and is best remembered for his winning records as Head Basketball Coach, taking the Owls and Indians to several regional and state tournaments during his career. Carroll was an avid sports fan and could recite sports stats from way back as his sons in law would inquire in disbelief. He became Principal of New Madrid Jr. High and retired in 1991. He was a proud member of the United Methodist Church, and 50 year member of The New Madrid Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed his retirement years in Murray Ky, living and fishing at the lake with Dianne. A good day fishing was spent every available day. Carroll and Dianne moved to NC in 2021 to be close to their daughters and grandkids.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dianne; daughters Jane Ball of Raleigh (Douglas) and children, and Liz Norris of Raleigh (Chris) and children and grandchildren. He is loved and will be missed by all, especially his 3 grandchildren: Caroline, Brady, and Mary Ball.

A small military graveside service for family and close friends will conclude on June 15, 11am at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with lunch following TBD.
