September 14, 1922 - October 18, 2011 Caspian Sea Franks went to his heavenly home on October 18, 2011. He was born on September 14, 1922 and was the son of the late Jasper and Maggie Franks. Caspian was a lifelong resident of Raleigh and is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Olene Ogburn Franks; daughter, Mona Knight and son-in-law, Jim Knight of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his special grandchildren Erin Lavin and Jimmy Knight; great grandchild Charlotte Lavin; sister Beverly Johnson, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers. Caspian served in the US Army during WWII from Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge as a platoon Sgt in the 35th Division and received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He worked as a food salesman all his life and retired from PYA Monarch. Caspian was a long time member of Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church. He loved playing golf, fishing, cooking, bowling, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. His newest joy was his new great granddaughter, Charlotte. Caspian will be remembered for his generous heart and his love shown to others. He was always verbally thankful to all who cared for him and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Rex Hospital for their compassionate care and for all of the friends and relatives who have helped so much. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church (Food Pantry) 1950 New Bern Ave, Raleigh, NC 27610 or to Hospice of Wake Co., 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Visitation will be Friday, October 21, 2011, from 10:00-11:00 at Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church followed by a celebration of his life at 11:00. Entombment rites will then be at Montlawn Memorial Park with military honors.
