Catherine Kay Pat S. Holden, of Cary, North Carolina completed her spiritual transition on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the age of 87. She was awaited by her beloved husband, James Edwin Holden, and her eldest daughter, Kathryn Holden Pattishall; her four siblings: Sophie, Mickey, Helen, and Johnny; her mother, Mary Korda Sabryga; and, her father, John Sabryga. Born in New York City in 1925, Kays faith, truth, and love were cemented through the Greek Orthodox Church, where, during services, she sang and played the mandolin. After high school, she met a young sailor, Jim Holden. They married in October of 1946. She then wholeheartedly became loving mother, decorator, homemaker, nurse, seamstress, and hair stylist to two daughters, Kathy and Coleen. When the girls entered high school, Kay took a position as a typist, and then, as an assistant to Jim Graham, in the North Carolina State Department of Agriculture. She remained with the Department until her retirement. Catherine Kay was a tireless caregiver to her children, the family pets, her mother, Mary; her sister, Helen; and her husband, Jim, before their passing. She is survived by a daughter, Coleen Victoria Holden, of Raleigh, North Carolina; and, a grand-daughter, Michelle DeLayne Mullins, of Mountain View, California. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.
