Angier- Cathrine Louise Slattum, 70, passed away after a long battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Born in Augusta, GA to Christian and Barbara “Sugar” Holland on May 5, 1953, Cathrine grew up in Connecticut and attended Keene State College in New Hampshire where she met her husband of 47 years, Kenneth Slattum, an Air Force Officer. Cathrine followed her husband to seven different duty assignments in the United States and Europe. Together they had two children.
Having graduated with a degree in Special Education, Cathrine dedicated her life to educating children and held teaching positions in Vermont, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Ramstein Air Force Base (Germany). A beloved teacher and administrator, Cathrine pursued her Masters of School Administration from NC State University in 2004, ending her career as Assistant Principal at South Harnett Elementary School. Known for her patience and love for all children, especially those with special needs, Cathrine was committed to helping every child achieve their full potential.
Cathrine is survived by her mother, Barbara “Sugar” Holland, her sister Patricia Verones, her husband, Ken, and their daughters, Lindsay Slattum Johnson and Lauren Slattum Tamburri, along with her two grandchildren, Asher Pullen and Bram Tamburri.
Services will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home (300 E. McIver St., Angier, NC 27501). In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Special Olympics.
