Cecil Hicks Stephenson, 93, beloved wife of Waverly Conly Stephenson for 75 years died peacefully on January 21, 2016 surrounded by loving family. Born March 14, 1922 to the late John Morgan and Mary Ella Shelton Hicks, she leaves many family members and friends to cherish her memory. Cecil was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a loyal member of First Baptist Church of Garner, and loved her spiritual family dearly. She was a devoted NCSU, UNC, and Garner Trojans fan. An avid championship golfer, she spent countless happy hours on the golf course with her husband, children, grandchildren, and golf buddies. Cecil was a wonderful cook and enjoyed sharing her bounty. She retired from NCDMV after many years of service. She is survived by five children, Conly Stephenson and partner Jean Daniels, Mike Stephenson and wife Jennifer, Sandra Stephenson Diffee, Mary Jo Stephenson and husband Mark Phillips, and Richard Stephenson; seven grandchildren, Morgan Stephenson and wife Marisa, Kim Brennan, Heather Gaydeski and husband Joe, Marshall Phillips and partner Sean Hunt, Owen Phillips, Duncan and Joel Stephenson; nine great-grandchildren, Jordan, Emma, and Nico Stephenson, Shannon Edwards and husband Tommy, Daniel Brennan and wife Haley, Kelly and Mason Brennan, Isabella and Brienna Gaydeski; three great-great grandchildren, Brennan Holder, Riley and Caroline Brennan. Cecil is also survived by sisters Ruth Norris and husband Robert, Eunice Johnson, Barbara Lamm, Lovey Jeanne Devendorf, brother Carlton Hicks, and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Mildred Currin and husband Irvin, Billie Woodall and husband H.T., Rachel Bailey and husband Thurman, Shirley and Antionette Hicks; brothers Alfred Hicks and wife Louise, Claiborne Hicks and wife Hilda, Norman Hicks and wife Doris, brothers-in-law Oris Johnson, Claude Lamm, and Bill Devendorf; sister-in-law Frances Hicks. Family will receive friends at 1:00, followed by 2:00 service on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at First Baptist Church, St. Mary’s Street, Garner, NC. Interment at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Cecil Stephenson to First Baptist Church of Garner Food Pantry or Meals on Wheels.
