GARNER - Charles Everett Purser, Jr., 73, passed away Tuesday after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Charlotte, NC, he was the son of the late Charles Everett Purser, Sr. and Elizabeth Cooper Purser. Charles was curious about the world around him and that led to his serving our country in the United States Air Force for 23 years. He was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Raleigh for 19 years. Charles, along with his wife, Jan and children, Denita and Mark, traveled all over the world and had many great adventures together. He also had a love for animals, nature, reading, genealogy and anything to do with history. Charles love for history and research led to his 25 years of work with Oakwood Confederate Cemetery, which was a very special place for him. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00, prior to the service at the funeral home. Remembering and loving Charles are his wife of 52 years, Janet Alecia Brown Purser; daughter, Denita Purser; son Mark Purser and wife, Katheren; granddaughter, Chanette; grandsons, Brian, Kyle and Collin; great-grandchildren, Zackary and Tia; sister, Stella Shernov. Also, remembering Charles, are his brothers-in-law, Dolan and wife, Lena, Roy and wife, Marylou, Conrad and wife, Jeanette, along with many nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends near and far who loved Charles dearly.
