Charles H. Finch

Angier, NC - Charles Hobart Finch, 82, of Angier, died Sunday morning at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Montezuma Co., Colorado, he was the oldest of three children born to the late Hobart Judd Finch and Marjorie Elizabeth Murphy Finch Armstrong in the town of Dolores, Colorado. on January 24, 1932. On June 13, 1959 he married Shirley Margaret Severson in Cashmere, Washington and their three children remain. Daughter Marcia Elizabeth and husband, Tom Schlosser of Montgomery Village, Maryland; daughter Terri Lynn Carney of Greensboro, North Carolina; daughter Becki Anne Ferguson and husband, Cary of Jacksonville, Florida. Also surviving is his wife Edna Stewart Finch of Angier and brother Robert E. Finch of Pasco, Washington. He also leaves six grandchildren, Kate, Rachel, Jennifer, Jonah, Hallie, and Eli, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He and Shirley Severson were divorced in 1984, and in November 1985 he married Doris Jeanne Grimshaw Knore, who also had three daughters from a previous marriage. Jeanne died from cancer in April 2001. In addition to his parents, Charles is predeceased by a sister, Mildred Gregg.During the Korean War, Charles served as a meteorologist in the Navy. After discharge from the Navy, Charles graduated from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington where he received his bachelors degree in education. He taught school in Lakewood, Colorado for seven years. While teaching school he attended The University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado working on his Masters degree.After seven years of teaching he moved to Springfield, Virginia and began work as an Analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He retired from the CIA in 1991 after 26 years. Not yet ready to stop working, he was hired by Westinghouse and worked as a Principal Scientist at the Department of Energys Savannah River Laboratory in Aiken, South Carolina for five and a half years and retired in 1997.Charles sold his house in Aiken and moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina.Charles was married again in July 2005 to Edna Hannan Stewart, a woman that he had known from high school. There are no services scheduled at this time, but it was Charless wish that he be buried at sea at a later date.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in Charless memory.
