Raleigh - Cheryl Laine Helfenbein, 69, departed peacefully at home on New Years Day. She was born on November 30, 1944 to William M. and Verna L. Liles in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Cheryl was one year old when her father returned from serving in World War II and met her for the first time.After graduation from Southeast Missouri State University, she was a teacher until joining her husband in a private employment agency, which they owned for 26 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Robert J. Helfenbein.Celebration Service will be held at Crossroads Fellowship on Sunday, January 5, at 3 PM.Cheryl leaves behind a son, Dr. Robert J. Helfenbein, Jr., his wife Kellie; daughter, Lisa Auguston, her husband Mark; granddaughters, Ava Katherine and Luci Claire and a brother, Terry A. Liles, his wife Debra, and nieces, Emily Smith and Molly Crosby. She leaves many friends who she also loved dearly.She loved her Savior, her church and continual Bible study programs at Crossroads Fellowship.Cheryl and her family give a special thanks to Rex Oncology, Dr. Susan Moore, Marie Carr, and the nursing staff and to Hospice of Wake County.Donations in memory of Cheryl Helfenbein may be made to the Rex Healthcare Foundation, 2500 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 325, Raleigh, NC 27607 for the Cancer Center Angel Fund.
