Raleigh - Chester Lue Groves, a long-time Raleigh resident, passed away on September 6, 2017 at the age of 73. Chester was born on March 22, 1944 in Person county. She graduated from Berea High School. She worked as a hairdresser in Raleigh for more than 40 years. An avid book reader, gardener, and bird watcher, Chester is remembered for her excellent southern cooking (pork chops aside), her wicked sense of humor, her love of a good joke, and her belief that life could always be improved (and accessorized) with a little sparkle and shine. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Chester is survived by her son, Dwight Meadows; son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Kelly Gay, and daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and Frank Rhodes; her brother and sister in law Leon and Pat Fogleman, and her sister and brother in law Dulcie Dawn and Donnie Philips; and her five grandchildren; Benjamin Meadows, Audrey and James Gay, and Adeline and Teresa Rhodes. She is preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Chester Arthur Fogleman. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on September 14 at Bryan-Lee Funeral home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh NC 27604 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Terry Ashe will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 15 at Person Memorial Cemetery, 3250 Durham Rd, Roxboro, NC 27573.
