Christine W. Johnson

Garner - Christine Wooten Johnson, 75, died Sunday.Born in Robeson County, she was the daughter of the late Drs. Clement L. Wooten and Thelma Godwin Wooten of Whiteville, NC.Christine Johnson graduated from Duke University with an English degree in 1958. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and a Charter Member of the Iron Dukes. She was a true blue Duke fan who attended Duke football and basketball games for over 40 years.Christine taught English for 30 years to academically gifted students in Wake and Harnett County.Her love of the English language, Shakespeare and her ability to spin a tale made her a favorite among her students.Chris was happiest when she was giving to others. She loved sharing baked goods, recipes, jokes and stories. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday at Four Oaks United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include her beloved husband of 53 years, Elvin Johnson; daughter, Karen Gayle Johnson of Garner; sister, Clara Highsmith and her husband, Julian of Brasstown NC; niece, Nancy Wooten and her husband, Denny Frye of Raleigh and nephew, Mose Highsmith and his wife, Josie of Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Memorial contributions may be made in Christines memory to Four Oaks UMC, Campaign 120, Building Fund, P.
