Whispering Pines - A Christmas baby and delight to his Catholic mother and father, Chris graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh and UNC Chapel Hill. His career in telecommunications spanned more than 30 years. Chris’ joy of life stemmed from his love of nature: fishing, bonsai, growing trees to share, finding flat rocks to build pathways through his garden, teaching Tai Chi Chih and sharing all this with wife, Karen. Every day of his life was spent trying to be a better person…and a better golfer. Chris was the initiating founder of Toastmasters Club of The Sandhills. He was a dedicated member of Toastmasters International during his life. With others, he created the Gavel Club in Pinehurst for young people. It was his way of paying forward the mentoring he received from Toastmasters as a young man. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Karen Peacock Norkus, son Christopher Conan Norkus of Utah, brothers John J. Norkus (Betty), Charles T. Norkus (Becky), Joseph M. Norkus (Mary) and 19 loving nieces and nephews. Chris made us laugh. He made a lasting difference in the lives of friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances by his positive way of living. He was and will continue to be a glorious gift to our lives. Memorials may be made to The Nature Conservancy and Sandhills Area Land Trust.
