Clara was born and spent her childhood in Columbus, Ohio where she graduated from high school in 1944. On August 4, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Frank Jackson and enjoyed a whirlwind 2,800 mile honeymoon trip. She worked at Nationwide Insurance Company until 1948, when she become a full-time homemaker, upon the birth of her first child. After making multiple moves, the family settled in Fort Pierce, Florida in 1958. In Fort Pierce, she remained solely focused on raising her children until 1972 when she began assisting Frank with the operation of their local Western Auto franchise in Port St. Lucie, Florida until they sold the business in 1979 and Frank subsequently retired in 1980.

Throughout retirement, Clara and Frank made multiple trips to visit family, and brought their grandchildren on many camping and travel adventures. In addition to traveling, she also enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading daily devotions.
