Clara Jean Mitchell Whitman

Clara Jean Mitchell Whitman, aged 91, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, went home to her heavenly Father on May 17, 2023. Clara was a kind, generous, loving, funny, and gracious lady. To know her was to love her. She loved the Lord and sought to show His love to those around her. She never sought to draw attention to herself, but her smile and warmth drew you to her.

Clara enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, game shows, time at the beach, and most recently the Carolina Hurricanes. Most of all she delighted in spending time with family and friends. Her home was always open to any visitor. Any gift she received was immediately precious to her and was kept for life- they were treasured because the giver had taken time to think of her to choose it for her. The sentiment had as much or more value than the gift.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents Jasper Franklin Mitchell and Thelma Fisher Mitchell; Husband Reverend George Whitman; siblings Howard, Virginia, Lois, Eunice, Rena and Stanley; daughter Georgia McNeely and son-in -law James McNeely, and grandson Adrian Walls.

She is survived by daughters Diane Walls and Lisa Hatfield (Lloyd); brother Jerry Mitchell; grandchildren Eric Walls (Jamie), John Lloyd Hatfield Carissa) , Victor Hatfield, Joshua Hatfield (Lauren), Jason McNeely (Heather), Libby McNeely Billotto (Chris); great grandchildren Isabelle, Gavin, Trent, Alyssa, CJ, Daniel, Trinity, Quintin, Micheal, and Victoria, and several dearly loved nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Clara will be held on Wednesday, May 24th at 1pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner, NC. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 12-12:45 pm. A graveside service follows at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
