Clifford was born on Oct 20, 1925 in Macon County, Tennessee. When he was one year of age his family moved to the Barthelia section of Trousdale County, Tennessee. He continued to live there until he graduated from Trousdale County High School in 1944. He received his high school diploma and a standing ovation, in a special presentation at the baccalaureate service, because he had to leave early on graduation day to report for active duty with the US Army Air Corps at the end of World War II. He was a tail gunner on a B17 Flying Fortress, flying out of Bury St. Edmunds, England. Upon discharge from the service he attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and received a BS Degree in Forest Management from North Carolina State College in 1951. He was then employed by Carolina Power Light Company for 38 years. At his time of retirement, he was classified as System Forester. At the University of Tennessee, he met, and in 1952, married Doris Elaine Queen of Cleveland, Tennessee. Shortly after marriage they joined the Presbyterian Church, an association they treasured for the rest of their lives. He was predeceased by Doris in 2002, Daughter Sarah Ann Dear in 2010 and by his only sibling, Clarence Albert Story and wife Leone Rankin of Hartsville, Tennessee. He is survived by one daughter; Mary Story Wells and husband Allen of Charlotte, NC, a son-in-law Arthur Dear of Cary, NC; a son John Alexander Story of the home. One granddaughter, Stephanie Gibson and husband Joshua of Mount Holly, NC; and a niece and three nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Jan 4th at the First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh. Interment beside Doris will follow in Raleighs Oakwood Cemetery, conducted by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends from 12pm to 1pm preceding the service at First Presbyterian Church at 112 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27601. It is suggested that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh or Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle Raleigh, NC 27607.
