Apex - Colleen Thompson Sexton, 91, died peacefully on Wednesday evening, April 18, 2012 at Spring Arbor of Apex. Colleen was the daughter of Lonnie James and Annie Dean Thompson. She was born on August 5, 1920. She was a lifelong resident of Garner, NC until she moved to Spring Arbor of Apex. Colleen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all she met. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. She could be best described as a sweet, thoughtful lady with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to express gratitude for any kindness received. She loved to make people feel important. Colleen enjoyed a uniquely loving relationship with her sister Ruth. They visited together often and spoke daily by telephone. Colleen is survived by her sons, Glenn Sexton and his wife Judy, and Wayne Sexton and his wife Susan, of Cary, NC and grandchildren Jason Sexton, Claire Chadwick and Brandon Sexton; great-grandchildren of Julienne Reynolds and Alex Chadwick. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Ross and brother-in-law A. W. Ross. She was predeceased by her husband Veldon and brothers Sam, Eugene, Milton, Roy and Otis and sister Pauline. Family will be receiving friends on Sunday, April 22, 2012 from 2:00 until 3:00 at Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church, Raleigh, NC with service immediately following. Internment will follow at Montlawn Cemetery, Raleigh, NC. The family would like to express special thanks for the compassion and excellent care provided daily by the entire staff of Spring Arbor of Apex since she moved there in September 2010 and by 3HC Hospice (Melissa Baker Miller, Pippa Cutter and Pam Hillhouse) since July 2011. Colleen was especially close to her friends Elizabeth Pickard, Mater Hightower and Kathleen Jones. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church, 4926 Fayetteville Road, Raleigh, NC 27603.
