Colon D. Jones, Sr.

RALEIGH - Colon Deward Jones, Sr., 83, of 4012 Memory Lane, Raleigh, died December 17, 2015, at Duke Raleigh Hospital. He was born August 26, 1932, in Chatham County, and was the son of the late John Jenkins Jones and Mary Mattie McIver Jones. Colon was preceded in death by his wife, Florene Murray Jones, and by his brother, Jack M. Jones. He retired from Westinghouse as a Mechanical Engineer after 29 years of service. Mr. Jones was a lifelong member of The American Legion, VFW and the Forty & Eight. The funeral service will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Colon is survived by sons, Colon Deward Jones, Jr., of Raleigh, and Maurice Jenkins Jones of Raleigh; daughter, Marshae Jones Williams and husband , Michael of Raleigh; sisters, Shirley J. Girard of California and Judy Jones of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Victoria Jones, Jessica Jones, Sydney Williams, and Sullivan Williams, and great grandchild, Amelia Hazelwood, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Although flowers are welcome, the family suggests contributions may be made to Grand Du North Carolina Nurses Training Program, c/o Art Long, 26 Amber Jean Dr., Hendersonville, NC 28791. The family would like to thank Transitions LifeCare and Duke Hospital for their loving care and support of Mr. Jones. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00pm -2:00 pm prior to the service and at other times at the Williams’ residence, 4512 Deer Stream Lane, Raleigh.
