GARNER – Coy Medlin Batten, 80, passed away Friday, June 15, 2018. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10:00 am at Garner United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. The family will receive guests at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm; and other times at the home. Coy was born in Johnston County on July 18, 1937 to the late Alonzo and Mary Batten. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University and a lifelong Wolfpack fan. Coy enjoyed fishing on the Carolina Coast and gardening on his family farm in his native Johnston County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Wolicki, Ruth Hess; and brothers, Cournel Batten, Steve Batten, Bill Batten and Jimmy Batten. Coy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Pattie Pope Batten; daughter, Debra Batten Bingham and husband, Jim of Greensboro; son, Dr. Michael Lee Batten of New York City, NY; grandchildren, James Carter Bingham and Michael Hugh Bingham both of Greensboro; sister, Mary Bayne of Garner; nephew and friend, Colin Batten of Kenly; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
