ANGIER, NC- Mr. Coyt Avon Johnson, 87, passed away Saturday May 1, 2021 at Windsor Point Retirement Community after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on the family farm in Harnett County on September 4, 1933 and was the youngest child to the late William Allen and Myrtle Rose Hamilton Johnson. As the youngest child he was nicknamed “Bud” and was called this by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Starling Johnson in July 2018. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald, Thurston, Elliot, Hartman, Graham and Rupert Johnson and his sisters, Era Upchurch, Madeline Naylor, and Margaret Matthews. He grew up in Angier, NC and graduated from Angier High School and Kings Business College. He worked for the Department of Defense at Fort Bragg until his retirement in 1988. He and Peggy moved to Supply, NC and he returned to the area in August 2020 to be near his family. He loved his family, fishing, playing golf and shot a great game of pool. He loved to play cards and putt-putt with his grandchildren and was also known to enjoy his nightly bowl of ice cream. He stayed active in his coastal community by volunteering with his homeowner’s association as both a board member and Treasurer. He also prepared income tax returns in the community until 2019. Coyt is survived by his sons, Alan (Gloria) Johnson and Michael (Gail) Johnson; daughter, Kelly (Marty) Caviness; grandchildren, Lauren Caviness (Daniel) Watkins, Amber (Chris) Johnson and Joshua (Nikki) Caviness; great-grandchildren, Silas Johnson, Parker Watkins, and Coralee Rose Watkins; and many nieces and nephews. As per his wishes a private Celebration of Life will take place and his ashes spread with Peggy at the beach, they both loved.
