Coyte Campbell Lanier, Sr.

Garner - Coyte Campbell Lanier, Sr., 89, of Garner, NC, passed away on Friday after several months of declining health. Born in Lee County, he was the son of the late T. T. Lanier and Lizzie Pearl Lanier. Coyte retired from Wake County Public School System with over 30 years of service in public schools, serving as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent and will be remembered for his dedication and belief in public education. Friends and family will treasure memories of his great sense of humor, innate curiosity of all things mechanical, and most of all his love and devotion of family. Coyte was preceded in death by his son, Coyte, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gladys Dees Lanier; his daughter, Lisa Powell (Jon) of Coats, NC; daughter-in-law, Diane Lanier of Belhaven, NC; grandchildren, Daniel Lanier (Susan) of Willow Spring, NC, Derek Lanier of Willow Spring, NC, Courtney Schuler (Donnie) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Spencer Powell of Garner, NC, Clayton Powell and Benjamin Powell, both of Coats, NC; great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Garner with a memorial service following at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC. Donations can be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association 2418 Blue Ridge Rd. Suite 206 Raleigh, NC 27607.
