Curtis Crocker Buffaloe, 89, of Raleigh went to be with the Lord on Tuesday.Curtis was the youngest son of the late Atlas and Lillian Crocker Buffaloe. Curtis met and married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Poole of Garner in 1944.They made a home in the McCullers Community, where they raised their two sons, Mickey and Danny.The family farmed tobacco until 1985.His love for the land and farming led Curtis to serve on the board of the USDA farm service agency, Farmers Exchange, Tobacco Co-op warehouse and Wake Christian School board.Curtis was recognized on several occasions for his achievements in farming and agriculture including the Outstanding Conservation Farm Family of the Year award in 1979.Curtis loved being outdoors, singing hymns and the fellowship of his family, friends and Sunday School class at Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church. Curtis is remembered and loved by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Poole Buffaloe; their sons: Mickey and Danny; daughter in law, Cindy; 4 granddaughters: Deborah Webb, husband David; Shelly Watkins, husband Arthur; Rachael Savage, husband Geoffrey; and Rebecca Moore; 3 great granddaughters: Peyton Moore, Caroline Webb and Adeline Watkins; brother, Julian Buffaloe; and many beloved nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his brothers: Floyd, Eugene, Russell and William Buffaloe; and sisters, Mae Johnson, Linda Perry, Mynette Strother and Ailene Stephenson; and an infant son, Braxton Bryant.Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at Bryan Lee Funeral Home, Garner.His life will be celebrated and remembered on Friday, April 19 at 11 am at Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church with graveside service to follow.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church, 4926 Fayetteville Road, Raleigh, NC 27603.
