Garner - Curtis McQueen Dail, 85, died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cumberland County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Cora Ellen Taylor Dail. Curtis graduated from Central High School and attended many schools while serving in the military. He served in the 101st Airborne and served his country during the Korean War. During his career he was a Fayetteville city police officer, an insurance adjuster, a franchisee for Hardees’ Food Systems and an active real estate developer with his partner Larry Watson in Coastal Land Ventures. Curtis was also involved in many other business endeavors. Currently, he was active on the board of Four Oaks Bank. Curtis was an avid Wolfpack fan and his love for NC State was unparalleled and spanned decades. No matter how he felt, attending State events gave him a tremendous lift. In recent years he served on the Wolfpack Board of Directors. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Garner where he served as an elder, a deacon and held multiple offices with the Men of the Church. He was awarded the honor of Man of the Year and Elder Emeritus. Survivors include his loving wife, Jackie Dail; sister-in-law, Judy Newton; godson, Stuart Williams and his wife, Pauline; sisters Mildred Thompkins, Vallie McMillan, Lauretta McMillan and her husband, Harry and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom he loved and of whom he was deeply proud. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Reuben, Duval, James and Auspy Dail and two sisters, Cathleen Dail and Helen Dew. Curtis enjoyed life and always enjoyed jogging with his faithful border collie, Wally. He loved people, he never met a stranger and he was happiest flying his plane or helicopter. One of Curtis’ greatest legacies is his business acumen and his mentorship of future business and community leaders. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church of Garner. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Curtis’ name to: First Presbyterian Church of Garner, SPCA of Wake Country, Hospice of Wake County or the NCSU Student Athletes Association.
