D C Roberts

David Cecil Roberts, 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 7, 2018.  A native of Roanoke, Virginia he was the son of Donnie and Bertha Roberts.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke, VA.   He diligently pursued and attained his BS in Business Administration and Master’s degree in Business Administration while working full time and raising a family. Called by the name DC, he worked in the Telecommunications Industry for many years.  He owned Avent Ferry Florist with his wife before retiring. He proudly served his country more than 40 years in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army and U.S. Army National Guard.  He was blessed with a musical gifting through the trumpet from the age of 10. He lovingly used his gift to serve others for over 60 years.  He served in his church orchestra, his country in the 440th Army National Guard Band, and his fellow man playing for weddings and funerals. He had a passion for vintage cars and owned two corvettes.  His favorite dogs were Great Danes having owned four of them.  Most importantly, DC was a man of faith.  He attended church regularly.   He had a heart for missions abroad with his home church witnessing in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Malaysia. Family was very important to him and he will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, February 15, 2018 in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner.  Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30am -12:45pm at the funeral home prior to the service. He is survived by wife of 48 years, Christine Roberts; daughters; Hollie Cox and husband Jim, Shannon Hamilton and husband Robert; son, David Roberts; sister, Arnetta D’Andrea; brother, Walter “Pete” Roberts and wife Pam; and grandchildren, James Cox and Stephanie Cox.
