RALEIGH - Daniel Hoover Sears (Dan) was born in Wake County on the farm of his parents, Berry Fredrick Sears and Bertha Searls Sears. He is survived by his son Danny Sears, who lived with him and brother-in-law, Clifton Watson along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Inez Yates Sears; sisters, Pansy Herndon (Raymond), Rachel Yates (Clair), Margaret Watson (Clifton) and brothers, Berry Sears Jr. (Ruth), Durward Sears (Clyde), Oneal Sears (Bonnie), John Sears (Maggie Bell) and Clair Sears (Lucy Gray). Dan was a strong supporter of his family and his church Tabernacle Baptist in Raleigh. At church, he taught a men’s Bible class for almost 50 years as well as served on most of the committees. Some of his fondest memories are service to the Mordecai community to improve it for the residents where he also lived. He was honored by NC Governor Jim Hunt with the Order of the Longleaf Pine award, the highest award given by the Governor. During WWII, he worked as a professional welder, a critical skill that prevented him from being drafted, even though he appeared at the draft board twice. After the war, he became owner and operator of Moto-Guard Company that built an oil pressure & temperature measurement device for truck diesel engines. During this time, he also was employed as an expert voting machine technician by Wake County Board of Elections for 38 years. His attention to details, along with is helper, Bobby Mills, provided for smooth elections year after year. Dan utilized his spare time doing metal work, inventing things and fishing at Jarvis Landing with his son, Danny. He loved people, especially children and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge thus being an avid reader. He loved this country and the principles that it was founded upon. Memorials in his honor can be made to the charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Raleigh Memorial Park.
