Danny L. King

GARNER - Danny L. King, 75, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, January 16, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born in Durham on November 21, 1949, the son of the late Leon H. King and Dorothy Oakley King. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Danny was known for his work at the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was very proud to be a part of many road and bridge projects that paved the way throughout North Carolina. He was also a private engineer, whose projects included the renovation of the original Durham Bulls Athletic Park and the high-speed railway from Durham to Charlotte.

Danny dedicated himself to his family, church and helping others in need. His favorite hobby was golf, and you could find him at the Raleigh Country Club course, where he was a founding member. He enjoyed traveling, particularly annual vacations to North Myrtle Beach with family, especially his grandkids, that involved competitive mini golf tournaments and eating his favorite King's Pizza. He was also proudly the ultimate thumb war champ to anyone he would play.

Danny was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams, Duke, N.C. State, and the New York Yankees. His ultimate favorite was watching his children play sports. He also had a passion for singing his favorite tunes, which included Country/Western Classics and Classic Rock.

On May 14, 2000, Danny married the love of his life, Stephanie. They were inseparable and did everything together including trips around the country, sporting events, serving the Lord and others, among daily life. He enjoyed doting on Stephanie, and it was his goal for her to feel loved and special as they lived life hand in hand together.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his brother, Richard M. King.

Danny is survived by his loving family which includes his wife of 25 years, Stephanie Jackson King; daughters, Jennifer King O'Keefe (Jim), Sarah Elizabeth King; son, Stephen Daniel King (Julie); sister, Dottie J. Phillips (Bill); grandchildren, Tiffany Breakell (James), Patrick J. Krizan, Jillian P. Krizan; and great grandson, Coleson Gill Breakell.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Aversboro Road Baptist Church in Garner, with visitation being held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Danny's memory to Aversboro Road Baptist Church; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; or to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
