CARY – Daphine Cook Norris, 96, left this world Tuesday, September 12, 2023. She was born May 18, 1927 in Erwin, NC to the late Will and Addie Cook, one of their ten children.
Daphine worked on the family farm before marrying Darnell Norris and moving to Sanford. She then became a homemaker while livingth in Tennessee and Florida. After moving to Cary in 1967, she worked as a homemaker, as a receptionist for her husband's heating and air conditioning business, then finally retired from working at AMP, Inc. in Cary.
Daphine loved going on adventures with friends and family. She enjoyed gatherings as a member of the XYZ Club and the "Good Time Gang," a group of friends that traveled across the US. Daphine also explored as a Good Sam camping club member, taking their motorhomes to campgrounds up and down the East Coast.
Daphine's son Terry introduced her to Camp Clearwater at White Lake, NC, and for over 30 years she gathered with family and friends from all over the campground.
Daphine's family want to recognize special people in her life: Martha Stafford, whom Daphine babysat for years and was like a daughter to her; and Cathy Waters and Wayne Beal, lifelong family friends of Daphine and the entire Norris family.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023 in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. The committal will be at 3:00 pm at Lee Memorial Gardens in Sanford following the service on Tuesday, September 19th. The family will receive relatives and friends from 12:00-12:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
She is survived by son Terry (Deborah); loving grandson, Nicholas; step-grandchildren, Chris, Ben, Molly, step-great-granddaughter, Leah and many extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Daphine was preceded in death by her husband Darnell; eight sisters, and one brother, Ben.
The family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org in memory of Daphine.
