David Griffin Hoggard, 82, died August 21, 2013 at The Oaks of Mayview after several months of declining health. A funeral service will be held at Forest Hills Baptist Church on Friday, August 23, at 11 AM. A committal service will follow at 4:30 PM at Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery, Roxobel, NC.A native of Bertie County, Mr. Hoggard was the son of the late Lewis and Mary Ellen Austin Hoggard. He was retired from the NC State University Horticulture Department and was an avid Wolfpack fan. Mr. Hoggard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances Griffin Hoggard; sisters, Mrs. Vauda H. Parker of Kelford, NC, Mrs. Jean H. Harrington of Rich Square, and Mrs. Ruth H. Mitchell and her husband Jack of Washington, NC; nephews, Sterling Parker of Kitty Hawk, Troy Parker, Jr. and his wife Judi of Ahoskie, Bailey Parker and his wife Donna of Kelford, and Leslie Parker and his wife Sue of Kelford; niece, Jackie Mitchell May and her husband Herb of Washington, NC. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Wayne Parker of Smyrna, Delaware. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Wells Edmundson, Dr. James Nutt, Dr. William Dunlap and their staffs and to the staff of The Oaks of Mayview for their compassionate care and kindness. The family will receive friends at Forest Hills Baptist Church immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to either Forest Hills Baptist Church or Hospice of Wake County.
