David Lee Brickley passed away on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024, at 73 years of age. David, older brother to Richard LeRoy Brickley (Toni), was born in Wilmington, NC on September 11th, 1950, to Robert LeRoy Brickley Jr. and Bessie Lee Monroe Brickley.
David grew up primarily in Jacksonville, NC, achieved his Eagle Scout, and was one of thirty-three scouts chosen from North Carolina to attend the World Jamboree in 1967. He graduated from Jacksonville Senior High School in 1968 and enlisted in the US Army in July 1969 for two tours of Vietnam, first as a Combat Pioneer Engineer and then as an Entertainment Specialist. After an honorable discharge in February 1972, he returned to North Carolina and attended UNC Wilmington, serving as the Resident Technical Director for Kenan Memorial Auditorium while achieving his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Speech, Philosophy, and Religion, with additional minors, in only three and a half years. The ensuing roster of his employment includes technical and artistic positions at Theatre in the Park, Easy Moving Dance Company, and downtown Raleigh’s Center of Performing Arts; alongside management of hardware centers, building suppliers, and home maintenance programs and services; a year as adjunct faculty in Theatre Arts at York College; and Maintenance and Building Curator positions at the NC Museum of History and UNC’s Morehead Planetarium. He continued with scouts as a BSA executive director in Sampson County; girl scout troop leader; and cub scout assistant in Raleigh, NC. He loved life on the beach, classic movies, and adventures outdoors with his family.
David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lucy Bray Senter Brickley, and his four children: David Alexander Brickley (Serena) of Garner, NC; Angela Elizabeth Brickley (Michael) of Pittsboro, NC; Arthur Lee Brickley of Raleigh, NC; and Andrik Lee Brickley (Morgan) of Zebulon, NC.
