Cary - David Lee Carmichael passed away in Cary, NC on October 25, 2017. He was born in High Point, NC, the son of T.R. and Mae Carmichael. He attended Jamestown High School, Morehead City Technical Institute, and NC State University. He served in the Air Force for four years in the Korean War. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Federal Aviation Administration where he worked as a Radar Technician. David was an accomplished musician, playing guitar in multiple bands through the years. He accompanied the Psalmsmen gospel quartet for many years, and played in the western film club Rocky River Cowboy band. In his retirement, David was an avid collector and restorer of antique cars and license plates and became a self-taught locksmith. David was a member of Raleigh Moravian Church. David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bettie Dobbins Carmichael; daughters Karen Fasolino (Chuck), of Micro, NC, Elaine Lee (Bobby) of Cary, NC, and Angela Huston (Kevin) of Apex, NC; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother Roger Carmichael of Kernersville, NC. He was predeceased by his parents and sister. Marilyn Coble of High Point, NC. Special thanks are given to Cynthia of Avendelle on Maynard for her inspirational and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28 at 3:00 pm at Raleigh Moravian Church. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church. Private burial will take place at the God’s Acre Moravian section of Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jamestown Public Library.
