Davis Bryant Woodall

ANGIER – Davis Bryant Woodall, Sr., 88, died Wednesday. A native of Harnett Co., he was the son of the late Gilbert and Alda Britt Woodall. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 2:00 PM at Angier United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Please celebrate with us that Davis has gone home to be with his wife of 49 years Betty Sue Dupree Woodall where they will resume their dance on the streets of gold. Davis quit school and joined the Navy on his 17th birthday in 1944 where he was an Aviation Ordananceman during WWII. After service he worked with his uncle in the Radio and TV business and later took over the family business. He took a refrigeration course at Wake Tech and later went to work with Robin Hood Truck Stop repairing 18 wheeler refrigerating units. He had a yearning to be a firefighter and eventually went to work in Fort Bragg and excelled with the fire department to become Assistant Fire Chief and Training Officer before retiring after 20 years. He also was Assistant Chief with his hometown Angier Fire Department. Davis would always be seen with some form of Carolina Blue in his attire and attended UNC football games with family and friends for years until his failing health. Since that time he always enjoyed watching the games on TV with his golfing buddies who were faithful to him til the end. He loved to fish and spent countless hours on local lakes and at the coast with his self adopted brother Jim Garner. Davis loved everyone, but there were a few people that he would want us to mention. All his buddies that he frequently ate lunch with at Bojangles in Fuquay. His self adopted son Kenny Matthews whom worked with him at the fire department and his brother and sister in Christ, Richard and Carolyn Forbis he met through his church. He also was preceded in death by his self adopted brothers Harry, Jimmy and Herman Dupree . The family would like to thank Oak Hill Living Center for the loving care they provided their dad in his final days. They also appreciate the care by Pat Springle, Gentiva Home Health and Community Home Care & Hospice. A very special thank you to his bosom buddy, Dr. Gregory Rose whom nurtured his heart the last 23 years to extend his time with his family and friends. He is survived by his son, Dave Woodall and his wife, Karen of Raleigh, daughter, Kay W. Capps and husband, Joe of Angier, grandchildren, Joseph Capps and wife, Kristen, Jennifer Smith and husband Harry, Adam Capps and wife, Jessica, Bryant Woodall, Cody Woodall, Chase Woodall; 6 great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, Lynwood Dupree and Bill Davis. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Butts and Frances Davis. The family will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier, 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday and at other times at the home of Joe and Kay Capps, 584 N. Dunn St., Angier, NC. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made be made to Angier United Methodist Church, 278 S. Wilma St. Angier, NC 27501
