Delores Irene Caskey

Delores Irene Caskey, 80, died at Duke University Hospital on Thursday, May 21, 2020. A native of Brookpark, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Herman Baker and Gerhardine Irene (Fiebing) Baker. Delores was a devoted wife, proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and the owner of various travels agencies. Delores and her husband Troy met in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Delores was in college and Troy was in the United States Air Force. They were married July 20, 1958 at the little Brown Church in the Vale, in Nashua, Iowa. Troy was stationed in Bad Axe, Michigan where they had their first son, Kevin. They were transferred to Mildenhall, England and stationed there for three years where their second son, Brian was born. They were once again transferred to Travis AFB, California until Troy received orders for Goose Bay, Labrador where they lived for three more years and had their third and youngest son, Christopher, who was coincidently born on the same date as Kevin, May 20th. Following their deployment in Labrador they were transferred to Sandia AFB in New Mexico where they lived for three more years until Troy was deployed on a remote tour of duty in Diyarbakir, Turkey. Delores and her three sons moved to Terril, Iowa so they could be close to family and relatives. When Troy returned from Turkey, Delores, Troy and the boys moved to Edwards Air Force Base for their final military deployment. Following 20 years of service in the United States Air Force, Troy retired and the family moved to Hemet, in Southern California. Delores attended college and received her Associates Degree in Business. Delores and Troy opened and operated several travel agencies, one in Hemet, California and the other in Mammoth Lakes, California. Delores and Troy lived in Hemet for 13 years before accepting a transfer to Kaneohe, Hawaii where they lived for three more years. Delores and Troy finally relocated to North Carolina, where they eventually retired. Delores and Troy built their forever home in Garner and later a vacation home in the mountains near West Jefferson, North Carolina. Delores and Troy loved to travel, they went to Germany nearly every fall, they enjoyed flying “Space A” made possible through United States Air Force and travelled extensively throughout the world, they enjoyed going on cruises and even crossed the Atlantic Ocean aboard a cruise-ship, they enjoyed Florida in the winter’s and relished long driving trips throughout the United States of America and Canada. Delores was an amazingly strong women, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was incredible proud of her sons and their families. Delores was a cancer survivor. Her later years in life were tested with continuous medical conditions and physical ailments. Nonetheless, throughout the years she was relentless survivor, she never complained, she always offered a smile regardless of her own conditions, she continually inquired about others despite her own situation. Her motto, was simply “one-day-at-a-time” and regardless of her condition kept a positive outlook on the future and life. Delores, “Dee” Mom, Grandma Caskey will be overwhelmingly missed by her family and friends. She would have been 81 years young this coming July. Surviving are her sons, Kevin Caskey of Parker, CO, Brian Caskey and wife Holly of Cary, NC and Christopher Caskey and wife Lori Anne of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Tabitha Tibbitts, Mckenzie Jones, Madison Caskey, Grant Caskey and Sage Caskey; six great-grandchildren, Hallie Tibbitts, Toby Tibbitts, Mallory Tibbitts, Brody Tibbitts, Audrey Jones and Isabel Jones. Delores also has two surviving sisters, Lynda Hauser, Violet Johnson and a brother Ralph Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Caskey. Due to COVID, a private service will be held with online streaming for others on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Oakland Presbyterian Church with interment following in the church cemetery.
