Angier– Dexter Allen Lanier, 68, passed away on Saturday at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Onslow County, NC, he was the son of Helen “Sally” Lanier of Beulaville and the late Sydney D. Lanier. Dexter's greatest passion in life was serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He felt God called him to music ministry. Dexter served the Lord faithfully and touched many lives with his music. His favorite Bible verse was Psalm 28:7, "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusteth in Him, and I am helped; therefore, my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise him". A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 20th at 2:00 PM at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, Angier. Burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30-1:45 PM at the church. Dexter is survived by his loving wife, Hazel Nason Lanier; daughter, Rebekah Lanier Strickland and husband, Ashley of Willow Spring; sons, Christopher Allen Lanier and wife, Stephanie of Clayton, Joshua Paul Lanier and wife, Allie of Fountain Inn, SC; grandchildren, Mia Lanier, Emma Lanier, Max Lanier, Zac Lanier, Chloe Strickland, Evie Lanier and one granddaughter on the way; brother, Roger Owen Lanier and wife, Kathy of Beulaville. In addition to his father, Dexter was preceded in death by his son, Michael Derek Lanier. The family would like to extend a special thanks from the bottom of their hearts to the staff of Transitions LifeCare, the many caregivers, and doctors who cared for Dexter during his extended illness. The compassion that was shared with Dexter and his family will never be forgotten.
