On Thursday, July 16, Dolores Kathryn Olsen Moore, age 92, passed away at her home in Garner, NC. Dolores was born on August 14, 1928, in Scalp Level, Pennsylvania to Ole and Cecilia Olsen. Dolores met her husband, Bill, while both were working at the same place in Bethesda, Maryland. He whisked her off her feet and soon they married and started their family of three boys. As a military family, they traveled and lived all over the United States and after Bill’s Navy career, they settled in the Garner area in the late ’60s and became lifelong residents of Wake County. Once they settled, she began work as a coder at Nationwide Insurance, eventually retiring after 30 years. She was a very competitive bowler with the Nationwide league. Mainly, Dolores enjoyed all the activities in which her husband and three boys participated. She could be seen clapping and cheering at football, basketball, and baseball games. The family was involved in NCSU football, Wolfpack Club members, and were avid tailgaters. Dolores was an adventurous and excellent cook; she loved trying new recipes and has an extensive collection of recipe books. She is especially famous for her cookie baking and absolutely loved sharing many cookies with family and friends at Christmas. Dolores was a voracious reader, an excellent seamstress, and loved cross-stitching, puzzles, and games. But mainly, she doted on and adored her family. She was a kindhearted, generous, and gentle woman who will forever live in our hearts. Dolores is survived by her three sons: William (Bill) R. Moore II and his wife, Debbie of Safety Harbor, Florida, Michael (Mike) Patrick Moore of the home and Scott Alan Moore and his wife, Sheila of Newport, NC. Dolores was also blessed with 4 grandchildren, Christina Moore of Raleigh, Heather Britt Veronelli and her husband, Tim of Clayton, NC, Allison Moore Berry and her husband, Nate of Vallonia, Indiana and Ashley Moore Larson and husband, Timothy of Louisville, Kentucky and step-grandchildren, Lauren, Bobby, and Shawn. Her great-grandchildren are Bailey Doak, Erica Eason, Britt Eason, Easton Berry, Morgan Berry, Eva Larson, and Ellie Larson along with step-great-grandchildren, Kassandra, Brianna, Joshua, and Vincent. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, and 2 brothers. A memorial service will be held at the Bryan-Lee funeral Home chapel on Thursday, July 23 at 3:00 pm with Father David of St. Mary Mother of the Church officiating. In accordance with the current restrictions and guidelines for visitations, the family will only be able to briefly speak to friends upon exiting, not a traditional public gathering. Interment will be at the Raleigh National Cemetery at a later date. While flowers are welcome, the family suggests that donations in Dolores’ memory be made to St. Mary Mother of the Church 1008 Vandora Springs Rd, Garner, NC 27529 where she worshipped, or to a charity of one’s choice.
