Donal Levitt, aged 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 23rd, 2021, at home with his wife Sue and daughter Carole by his side. There will be a celebration of Don’s life on Saturday, March 20th, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Ebenezer United Methodist Church on Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh NC 27610., with Military Honors. Don was born on May 2nd, 1926 in the Bronx, NY to Samuel Levitt and Ellen O’Connor Levitt. Don graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Over the years, he worked at Pratt and Whitney/United Technologies, Electric Boat and Grumman Aircraft, all located in Connecticut. Don married the love of his life, Audrey Sue Van Wagner, on November 9th 1957 and they were married for 63 years. They settled in Vernon, CT, and raised 3 daughters. Although Don loved all things mechanical and figured out how to repair just about anything, he also had a strong creative side as well. He was an amateur photographer and always could be found with a camera around his neck, and even learned how to develop his own photos. Don also dabbled in oil painting and designed his own miniature fully functioning submarine. In his later years, he enjoyed putting together intricate wooden 3D puzzles. His interests also included being outdoors and maintaining his yard and gardens, and taking the family camping annually, usually to the Cape Cod seashore. After retiring from Pratt and Whitney in 1993, Don and Sue relocated to Asheville, NC. Together, they were faithful servants of Christ United Methodist Church of Weaverville where he volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, Operation Christmas Child, singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school and other ministries. Don worked for an organization called Land of Sky Waste Reduction until the age of 87. Don and Sue relocated to the town of Garner, NC, to be closer to their daughter Carole and her partner Byron in June of 2020. Don is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Audrey Sue, daughters Carole Netherton (Byron Wallace), Mary Ellen Faust (Andy), grandchildren Amber Breton (Dylan) and grandchildren Abigail Faust and Caleb Faust. Don was a great grandfather to Ronan and Coral Breton. He is predeceased by his oldest daughter Cynthia Kelly and a daughter Pamela who had passed away at birth. Don’s older brother Eugene Levitt also predeceased him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity ; habitat.org, Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC or a charity of your choice.
