Donald Eugene Jones

Donald Eugene Jones, 83, met his Savior face to face when he was called to his heavenly home on August 20, 2024. Don was born to the late William and Edith Jones in Tazewell, VA on July 28, 1941.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brothers Kelly Jones and Paul Danny Jones, and sisters Edna Wray and Vicie Brinegar.

Don was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. He dedicated three years of his life to serving in the United States Army. Later, he worked as a Life Insurance Agent and truck driver for Gordon Foods.

Don was an avid golf lover and took pride in scoring a hole in one. He was a homebody by nature, but nothing compared to the love he had for his family.

On June 2, 1967, Don married his beloved wife of 54 years, Shirley Solomon. They welcomed their daughter on October 28, 1971, Donna Michele Jones, named in his honor. Don’s pride and joy were his two grandsons, Jacob and Jackson Keene, and his great granddaughter, Berkeley Keene. Don often commented on how blessed he was to have the opportunity to watch his grandsons grow up and see his first great grandchild born this past year.

Don is survived by his wife Shirley Jones; daughter Michele (Eric) Keene; grandsons Jacob (Camden) Keene and Jackson (Kaylee) Keene; great granddaughter Berkeley Keene; brother Harry Wayne Jones; sisters Betty Phillips, Ada Burnap, and Pat Wray; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Rd., Garner on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Don’s great granddaughter, Berkeley Keene’s college fund.
