Garner– Donald Vincent Dilling, 82, passed away January 2, 2022 with his family and close friends at his side. Born February 17, 1939 in Gastonia, NC he was the son to the late William and Nina Dilling. Donald served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965 and then worked for and retired from Burroughs Wellcome in 1995. He loved bluegrass music, gospel music, camping, motorcycles and Nascar. He enjoyed camping in his motor home at Bluegrass festivals and was very proud to be a great grandfather. He was known as a great storyteller and always found a great story to tell his friends and family. In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his brothers, Bill Dilling (Ossie) and Ken Dilling as well as his nephew Billy Dilling. Donald is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Linda; sons, Scott Dilling (Betsy), Stephen Dilling (Macie) and Jose Pratts (Nancy); grandchildren, Stephanie Cherryholmes (Skip), Matt Dilling (Breanna) and Kristin Dilling; great-grandchildren, Aiden Cherryholmes and Adeline Cherryholmes; nephew Randy Dilling (Wilma), Eddie Dilling and Bill Dilling and sister-in-law Ruth Dilling. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January, 6th at 4:00 PM, at Bryan Lee Funeral Homes - Garner. The family will receive friends and family for a time of visitation from 2:45 – 3:45 PM on Thursday, January 6th prior to the service.
