Doris Ann Cannady

November 17, 1945 — June 22, 2018

GARNER - Doris Ann Cannady was a woman of exceptional talents. She made everything around her look amazing and everyone around her feel their best. She was generous with her grand ideas, kind words and cups of coffee around her table. She was a popular florist in the Garner area inspiring many with her talents and mentoring those rising in the industry. When she retired from the floral world she directed weddings. Doris Ann just loved weddings. She wanted every brides dream to come true and had a knack for pulling it all together. Doris Ann Hill Cannady was born on November 17th 1945 in Newton Grove, North Carolina to Garland and Doris Hill. It was in Newton Grove at Hobbton High School that Doris Anns path crossed with a handsome young man who volunteered to drive the field trip bus just so he could meet her. Meet her he did, and Jim and Doris Ann celebrated 53 years of wedded bliss together. It was also at Hobbton that Doris Ann found a wonderful group whose friendship she cherished for over 50 years. Family and community were always important to Doris Ann. She created a space at “the olde house” in Newton Grove where friends and family could gather and celebrate each other. She hosted breakfast every Christmas morning and many pig pickins happened in her back yard. If you werent family, Doris Ann made you feel like family and you always had a sense of home at the Cannady house. Doris Ann was a loving mother, and so very proud of her three children and three grandchildren. She was also like a mother to many nieces, nephews, friends and even neighbors. She is survived by her loving husband Jim Cannady, sons; Hugh Cannady (Jamie) of Surf City, Eric Cannady (Angela) of Garner, daughter Jaime C. Mixon (Kevin) of Southport; grandchildren Alexis Cannady, Harris Cannady, and Hudson Cannady. She is proceeded in death by her parents Robert Garland Hill and Doris Langston Hill and her beloved sister Joyce Hill Barefoot. (who, now that they are reunited, are catching up over coca colas) Doris Ann Hill Cannady will be dearly missed by anyone that ever met her. To meet her was to be counted among her friends. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 30th at 1pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner, NC. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service.
