***INCLEMENT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT*** Due to inclement weather, the funeral service has been postponed to Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Garner United Methodist Church. GARNER - Doris Baynes Holmes passed away December 5, 2018. A native of Burlington, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander Baynes, Sr. and Dorsie Mae Vaughn Baynes. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Albert Holmes, Jr. Surviving is her sister, JoAnn Baynes Wright; two daughters, Dee Holmes Nelms (husband, William [Skeeter]) and Jane Holmes Johnson (deceased husband, Earl); three grandchildren, Jenna, Trey, and Neil (wife, Lisa); three great grandchildren, Mikenzie, Tristen, and Caden. She attended Elon College and UNC-Greensboro. She served as a WACS (Lab Technician) in WWII. Funeral service followed by a reception will be Wednesday, December 12th, at 2:00 PM, at the Garner United Methodist Church. There will be a private family burial at Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Garner United Methodist Church or Transitions Hospice Care of Wake County.
