Doris Norwood was born at Duke University Hospital on May 11, 1935 to Robert and Emma Estelle Norwood.
Her family of eventually four brothers and four sisters lived on a farm near Leesville, NC on what later became Norwood Rd.
She attended the Millbrook School system and graduated in 1954 from Millbrook High School.
Doris was an honor student and an accomplished athlete who excelled at basketball. She was also very proud of driving the Millbrook school bus #39 as did her brothers and one of her sisters.
Doris was elected Miss Millbrook, May Day Queen, and was a cheerleader. She often joked that her boss at an after-school and weekend job would call her Miss Millbrook if she was late for work.
She spoke fondly of her school superintendent, principal, teachers, fellow students, and her Millbrook School experience.
After high school Doris moved to Baltimore, Maryland and then to the Dayton, Ohio area and had three children, Ron Bailey, Teresa Lees, and Steve Hoskins; and three stepchildren Teri, Jim and Rea Jene Marsh.
She worked for Mound Laboratory, Miamisberg, Ohio under the Atomic Energy Commission and Department of Energy.
Two of her former lab partners, Kenneth Jordan and Dr James Birden are in the US Patton Inventors Hall of Fame.
After retirement in 1985, Doris and her husband Clayton Marsh from New Lebanon, Ohio moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
There, Doris won numerous citations and awards and was in three Virginia Pilot articles for her passion for fishing. She also was in the Outer Banks Garden Club, and volunteered for and supported, numerous charities.
After 25 plus years at the Outer Banks she moved to Ohio to be closer to her daughter, Teresa and her three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, Parker Bourke.
Her care in later life was provided by the Forum of Knightsbridge, Columbus Ohio where the wonderful staff was extended family. Doris was also kindly cared for by National Church Residents Foundation, Columbus Ohio.
