Garner – Doris Moore Holland, 94, passed away Monday. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly. She went peacefully to be with the Lord, with her son by her side. Doris was born in Pender County in 1927 and grew up with very limited means during the Depression. She moved to Wilmington just after World War II and started to work at Atlantic Coastline Railroad where she met her husband of fifty-nine years, Gil. She retired from the railroad after many years of service to raise her wonderful and loving son, Greg. In later years she worked with the March of Dimes as an administrative assistant. Doris enjoyed gardening, housekeeping, cooking and spending time with her family, friends and her beloved church family. She enjoyed many years of vacuuming and keeping her house spotless all the way to the end. Graveside service will be 10:30 AM Friday at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Doris is survived by her sister, Betty Jolly of Charlotte; son, Greg Holland (Susan) of Benson; grandson, Dalton and several loving nieces, nephews and many close friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert Holland, parents, Juanita and Robert Moore, Sr.; brothers, Jack Moore (Aileen), Robert Moore, Jr. (Edna) and Maurice Moore (Bea). In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
