Doris Stephenson Griffis, 92, of Smithfield, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro after a brief illness. A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late James and Plassie Jones Stephenson. Doris worked in the clothing manufacturing business for many years as a seamstress. There will be a private funeral service Friday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Angier. There will be a public graveside service at 12:00 Noon on Friday at Willow Spring Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. (Face coverings are encouraged.) Along with her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Griffis, Sr.; son, John D. Griffis, Jr.; daughter, Trish Griffis; granddaughter, Kimberley Michelle Griffis and 10 siblings. Survivors include her daughters, Debbie Mullins and husband, Robert and Pam Hailey and husband, Ross; daughter-in-law, Pat Griffis; grandchildren, Matt Griffis and Kristi Griffis; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Smith; and numerous nephews and nieces. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to The Gideons at The Gideons International Processing Center P. O. Box 97251 Washington, DC 20090-7251 Due to Covid-19 there will be no formal visitation, however, Doris will lie in repose Thursday from 1-5 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier for anyone wishing to pay their respects and sign the guest book. No family will be present.
